Garcia was a student at Texas Christain University to study during a period of time after she graduated from high school. She then transferred to the University of Texas. After arriving at Texas Christain University she was introduced to a competitive environment that helped her develop the skills of a golfer. Angela Akin Garcia was a fantastic golfer but did not envision a future in golf. Her choice was to study journalism instead. After graduating in journalism, she got a job as a Fox Sports Southwest reporter.
